Lift all five pin stacks to the shear line and the plug will turn.
This is the inside of the pin tumbler lock on most front doors. Spring-loaded pin stacks block the plug from turning. Every cut on your key lifts one stack to exactly the right height.
How we open it without a key
Set every pin at the shear line and the plug turns free. That is what picking is: doing the key's job one pin at a time, with finesse instead of force. In the rare event that a lock has to be drilled, we carry replacement cylinders that can be keyed to your existing keys.
- Tension the plug and feel which pin binds.
- Lift it to the shear line until it sets.
- Repeat for each pin. Then the plug turns and the door opens.

Will you damage my door or lock getting me in?
Non-destructive entry is our specialty. We pick, decode or bypass the lock first, using classical picks, electric picks and Lishi tools, so you get back in without replacing the door or the hardware. In the rare event that a cylinder has to be drilled, we carry replacement cylinders that can be keyed to your existing keys.
Do you open locked cars?
Yes. We handle home, car and business lockouts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Do you cut keys on site?
Yes. The Jeep carries a code-cutting machine and a key duplicator, so keys are cut in your driveway or parking lot instead of back at a shop.
Should I rekey or replace my locks?
Rekeying keeps your existing hardware and changes which key works it, which is a best practice after you move into a new home or lose a key. Replacement makes sense when hardware is worn or broken, or when you want an upgrade like a keypad deadbolt or a smart lock. We will tell you which one fits your door.
